PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The National Museum of Civilization of Quebec is the fourth largest of its kind in Canada. Rectangular in shape, the Museum is divided in three contiguous buildings along Dalhousie Street between the river and the cliff, north of St-Pierre Street. All exhibition halls are concentrated in the south building while the central volume contains the public reception services located between the two entrances. Each building was set around important heritage structures. The building to the east incorporates the Maison Quercy and contains the Museum’s commercial spaces and boutiques open to the public. The building to the west side is used for administrative purposes. The main building in the centre was set to enhance the presence of the Maison Estèbe, one of the very few surviving examples of 17th century architecture, and its relation with the recuperated remnants of the original river piers where a sculpture was integrated.
