PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Gérald-Godin College is occupies a Lombard style monastery built in 1932 by the Sainte-Croix Monks as well as an extension of contemporary design. The result is an original and striking complex taking full advantage of a unique site located on the banks of Riviere-des-Parairies, facing Isle Bizard. The project involved a full-spectrum functional program for educational spaces including classrooms, laboratories, gymnasium, library, cafeteria and office spaces as well as a multi-purpose 350-seat auditorium.
The new wing is expressed as a free-form polyhedra emerging from the ground flanking the existing building and underlying the expression of the old and the new in their own respective identity. The laboratories and classrooms are concentrated in the new building while the renovated existing building accommodates seminar rooms and teacher's offices and meeting rooms. The old chapel has been converted into the library, taking advantage of its volume and distinct accesses as well as of the restored original stained glass windows.
