PROJECT DESCRIPTION
For more than 30 years of its existence, the firm of Desnoyers Mercure & Associés had its residence in a 4-storey Victorian mansion on University Street in Montreal within the firm'.s landmark project, Jardins Prince-Arthur . As a result of the firm's growing activity, the space had become constraining and inefficient The search for new space led to an out-of-the-way industrial building on de Courcelles Street in Montreal's St-Henri district. The building offered, among other advantages, spaces with abundant natural light, proximity to the downtown core and easy access as well as possibilities for future expansion if eventually needed. The reception area is the focal point of the new layout. While required to be both functional and welcoming it also forms an introduction to the firm's culture and represents its preoccupation for reason and quality in its delivery of services. . Two adjoining conference rooms that can be combined into a single reception space are located immediately near the main entrance. The open plan studio occupies most of the area, enjoying large panoramic windows on three sides. The private offices are located in a more quiet section away from the open plan work area . The materials used reflect a preoccupation with cost-effectiveness as well as responsiveness to the architectural context and character provided by the building's exposed original structures and materials.
